In 2003, Dr. Alan Lau founded the "Canadian Low-Income Seniors Affordable Housing Society" as a way to help the people of his community that need assistance the most. Both with managing a tight budget and with finding a purpose and  companionship in their daily lives.

Now branded as the Richmond Community Benefit Centre, the good Doctor's association is one third senior's centre, one third financial planning and one third co-operative discount club.

Dr. Alan Lau has multiple PhDs in psychology, economics and law. He brought a successful business career to Canada in 1965 and years later, when other men would have retired, he instead chose to dedicate all of his time and personal funding to create this non-profit organization.

At eighty-six years of age this incredible man heads a team of hard-working and experienced counsellors. Whether sharing his wisdom while coaching the student volunteers or spearheading a new campaign to fundraise for a new games hall at the centre, Doctor Lau acts as both mentor and grandfather to an entire neighbourhood.
